Climbing in Thailand

27 gyms in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Khon Kaen, Hat Yai and Samui Islands. Bangkok has the biggest climbing scene in Thailand, from bouldering gyms in Sukhumvit malls to roped walls across the city and its suburbs. Chiang Mai is northern Thailand's climbing hub, with gyms in and around the Old City and the limestone of Crazy Horse Buttress nearby. Phuket's climbing gyms are mostly open-air, a good option when you want a session between beach days. Pattaya and nearby Si Racha have family-friendly climbing gyms, from a mall wall with lead routes to small bouldering spaces. Khon Kaen is home to Isaan's first bouldering gyms. Hat Yai has southern Thailand's first city bouldering gym. Climbing on Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao: the islands have small bouldering gyms on Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Koh Samui itself has no climbing gym yet, so the nearest walls are a ferry ride away.

Climbing in Malaysia

21 gyms in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Melaka, Miri and Kuching. Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley have one of the region's busiest gym scenes, with bouldering and roped walls across the city and Petaling Jaya. Penang's three climbing gyms are all run by Project Rock: one in Gurney Plaza in George Town, one at Bayana Hub in Bayan Lepas near the airport, and one on the mainland at IKEA Batu Kawan. Johor Bahru's climbing gym is Camp5 Paradigm, about 2,000 m² of bouldering and roped walls up to 15 m on level 7 of Paradigm Mall. Kota Kinabalu's climbing is at the Sabah Indoor Climbing Centre in the Likas Sports Complex: a covered top-rope wall with guided sessions for beginners, plus a spray wall, campus board and MoonBoard for training. Melaka's indoor climbing is at PAMPA Rock Climbing in Taman Kota Syahbandar, which has bouldering and top-rope walls. Miri's indoor climbing is at Top Climb, a bouldering gym on level 3 of MYY Mall in Lutong. Kuching's indoor climbing is at Klimbzone, a bouldering and top-rope gym on Jalan Lapangan Terbang.

20 gyms in Jakarta, Bogor, Bali and Surabaya. Jakarta's climbing gyms range from mall bouldering walls to tall roped walls. Bogor's indoor climbing is at Boulder Climbing Gym, on the 5th floor of Mall Boxies 123 in Tajur, with bouldering, lead and a speed wall. Bali's climbing gyms: Rock Island in Pererenan, near Canggu, has bouldering, top rope and lead; Bali Boulder in Sanur has a 20 m EP boulder wall inside Clip 'n Climb Bali; and Monk Climbing Gym is a bouldering gym in Peliatan, Ubud. Surabaya's climbing: Boulder IN is a bouldering gym in Dukuh Pakis, west Surabaya, open daily until 10 pm.

Climbing in the Philippines

18 gyms in Manila, Calabarzon, Cebu, Iloilo, Pampanga, Siargao and Davao. Metro Manila's climbing gyms are spread across Quezon City, Makati and beyond, with a lively bouldering competition scene. Calabarzon is the region just south of Metro Manila, covering Batangas, Laguna, Cavite, Rizal and Quezon. Its climbing gyms include Climb Shack in Lipa City, Batangas, with bouldering, top rope and lead climbing. Cebu's climbing gym Rock On Boulder Gym is on level 2 of Ayala Malls Central Bloc in Cebu IT Park, with about 260 m² of textured bouldering walls, a spray wall and a Junior Wall for kids. Iloilo City has two climbing gyms: The Pump Factory, with more than 200 boulder problems plus top-rope and lead routes on walls up to 15 m, and Vertex Bouldering, a 250 m² bouldering gym that hosted the 2024 Philippine Bouldering Nationals. Flow State Bouldering in Angeles City calls itself Pampanga's first bouldering gym, with 150 m² of Walltopia bouldering walls. Siargao's indoor climbing is at Tropeak in Catangnan, General Luna, a bouldering gym with a calisthenics area, sauna and ice bath, open daily. Davao City's indoor climbing is at Boulder24, a bouldering gym in La Herencia Compound on F. Torres Street, Poblacion.

30 gyms in Singapore. Singapore has a dense network of bouldering and roped gyms, most an easy MRT ride apart.

Climbing in Vietnam

9 gyms in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Hanoi's climbing gyms are bouldering gyms, with VietClimb and Beefy Boulders in Tay Ho near West Lake and more in My Dinh and Long Bien. Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) has both bouldering and roped climbing, with Skywalk Climbing and Boulder Box in Binh Thanh and Push Climbing's Crescent Wall in District 7. Da Nang's indoor climbing is at Danang Climbing Gym in Hai Chau, a bouldering gym open every day from 8am to 10pm.

Climbing in Cambodia

1 gym in Phnom Penh. Le Club, a bouldering gym and café in central Phnom Penh, opened in June 2025 with about 310 m² of bouldering walls, a spray wall on a roofed terrace and a climbing playground for kids.

Climbing in Brunei

1 gym in Bandar Seri Begawan. UP Climbing Centre in the One Menglait Industrial Park, Gadong, has about 300 m² of climbing surface and a bouldering cave.

Climbing in Myanmar

1 gym in Yangon. Climb O'Clock, a climbing gym on U Pe Thin Street in Thingangyun township, runs belay classes and a getting-started climbing programme.

First time climbing indoors?

Most gyms hire out shoes, and bouldering needs no rope or partner, so you can walk in and climb. Roped climbing usually needs a belay check or a short intro course first: each gym page says which walls it has, and the gym can tell you what they ask for.
